Before you buy

What is the best salon management software for a small salon or independent stylist?

The category leaders charge per chair or per month once you are past a limited free tier – often $30-$150 a month, more with online booking and payment processing added on. OwnDesk Salon covers the daily work – appointments, a commission rollup per stylist, retail inventory with reorder alerts, and cash flow – for a one-time price. It does not take online bookings from clients or process card payments itself; if you need those, that is a real reason to pay for a subscription.

Can it track staff commission automatically?

Yes. Set a commission percentage once per staff member, and it is calculated automatically from that month’s completed appointments – click any staff card for their own rollup of appointments, revenue and commission owed, without exporting anything or doing payout math by hand.

Does it track retail and back-bar inventory?

Yes. Every product carries a cost, a retail price, quantity on hand and a reorder level, and anything at or below that level is flagged on the dashboard before you run out mid-service.

Can two computers share the same salon data?

Not in this version – it’s single-computer by design. Move data between machines with an export and restore backup file; only one computer should be the working copy at a time. If your front desk and your back office both need to edit live at once, this isn’t the right fit, and it’s better to know that before buying than after.

Does it take bookings from clients online?

No. It organizes the appointments you enter – client, staff, service, date and status – but does not offer an online booking page or process payments itself. Pair it with your own booking widget or payment method for those.

What do you get, and what do you need to run it?
