🔒

Your data stays on your PC

No cloud, no server, nothing to leak. Records live on your own disk.

⚡

Double-click and go

No install, no account. Unzip it and it opens in the browser you already have.

What it does

Everything a repair order touches, on one screen.

Repair orders • estimates • digital vehicle inspections with photos • service reminders • customer e‑signature • invoices • parts inventory • appointments & schedule • customer & vehicle history • technicians.

The whole shop, one screen

Customers, vehicles, work orders, estimates, invoices, parts, technicians and the day-by-day schedule. Nothing lives in a second spreadsheet.

Digital vehicle inspections with photos

Run a full inspection with photos, mark deferred work, and turn what the customer declined today into the estimate you send next month.

Service reminders, PRO

Every vehicle keeps its own next-service date and mileage. When it's due, it surfaces on the dashboard — no separate spreadsheet of who's overdue for an oil change.

Customer e-signature, PRO

The customer signs the estimate or the finished work order on the screen in front of them — approval and sign-off on the same document, no printer involved.

Pricing that holds up

Several labour rates, a parts price matrix that fills in blanks without ever overwriting a figure you typed by hand, and per-vehicle history.

Reports a manager reads

Shop KPIs, revenue by service, technician output and outstanding work — printable, and exportable to CSV.

Why shops switch

You're not really choosing between two work order apps.

You're choosing between paying once and paying every month, forever, for a chain-shop tool sized for a business you don't run.

Questions

Before you buy.

What is the best auto repair software for a small independent shop?
For a one-to-five-bay shop, the honest answer is that the market leaders are built for chains: Tekmetric, Shopmonkey and AutoLeap sit around $200–$400 a month and assume a service advisor, a parts network and a permanent internet connection. OwnDesk Auto PRO covers the same daily work — repair orders, estimates, digital vehicle inspections, service reminders, customer e-signature, invoices, parts and the schedule — for a single payment, running on the computer already on your counter. What it does not do is multi-location, live multi-user sync, SMS or payment processing. If you need those, buy one of the subscription products; if you do not, you are paying $2,400 a year for features you will never open.
Does it send service reminders?
Yes. Each vehicle keeps a next-service date and mileage, and vehicles due or overdue surface on the dashboard automatically. There's no SMS or email sending — it's a reminder list you work from at the counter, not an automated campaign, which is exactly what keeps it a one-time purchase instead of a monthly one.
Can the customer sign the work order or estimate?
Yes. The customer signs on the screen — mouse, trackpad or touchscreen — to approve an estimate or sign off a finished work order, and that signature is saved on the document itself. No printer, no separate e-signature subscription.
Is there free work order software for an auto repair shop?
There is, and most of it is a trial that becomes a subscription, or a generic work-order app that knows nothing about vehicles, VINs, labour rates or parts markup. OwnDesk Auto PRO is not free, but it is paid once and never again — for less than one month of the subscription that free trial turns into. The demo data lets you drive every screen before you decide.
Can this replace the spreadsheet I run my shop on?
That is precisely what it was built for. A spreadsheet cannot stop you overwriting a paid invoice, cannot tell you what a customer declined six months ago, and cannot print an inspection your customer understands. This keeps repair orders, estimates, invoices, vehicles and parts in one place with a proper history, and still exports every screen to CSV, which opens straight in Excel, LibreOffice or Google Sheets when your accountant asks.
Does it do digital vehicle inspections with photos?
Yes. A full inspection with pass / watch / fail on each point, a note on any point, and up to six photos per inspection that print on the customer report. Anything the customer declines becomes deferred work, so next month you can pull up exactly what was found and quote it instead of guessing.
Do I need an internet connection or a subscription?
Neither. It is one HTML file that runs in the browser you already have and stores its records on your own disk. After the download it never needs the internet again, and there is nothing to renew. If your line goes down mid-morning you keep writing repair orders.
Is there a multi-user / multi-technician version?
Technicians are tracked inside the app — you can assign work orders to named techs and report on their output. What it does not do is live sync between two computers editing the same file at once; each install keeps its own records. For a one-front-desk shop that's how it's meant to run.
Does it work on Mac?
Yes. Any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox — on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook, iPad or Android. Nothing to install, no account to create.
How do I back up my data?
One click, from inside the app: it exports a backup file you keep wherever you already keep things safe — a USB stick, a shared drive, an email to yourself. Nothing is uploaded anywhere automatically, because there is nowhere for it to go.

See your own repair orders in it before you decide.

The live demo has real screens and demo data loaded — no sign-up, no credit card. If it fits, buying takes about a minute.
